About Print Icon
Vahid Pourkay, president and founder of print icon, believes in following your passion. An aspiring entrepreneur at the age of 17, Vahid moved from his childhood home in Tehran, Iran to the United States, where he spent his days overseeing employees in his brother-in-law’s type shop. Nights, Vahid dove into the business of typography and fell in love with printing and design.
Within a year, Vahid opened a shop of his own and, after the release of the original Apple Macintosh in 1986, was among the first to embrace the digital printing revolution. In 2003, after years immersed in state-of-the-art technologies such as laser engraving and indigo printing, Vahid was drawn back to his roots. Determined to align his affinity for artisan print methods with his business, Vahid began purchasing 100-year-old printing presses. Along with modern techniques, print icon began offering customers artisan printing services, including letterpress, engraving, and foil stamping.
Today, Vahid is excited to continue his journey of bringing his passions of art and business together. At the new boutique, print icon’s exclusive blend of cutting edge and heritage printing services have evolved to include gilding, revolving art exhibitions, and a curated collection of gift and décor items.
Print Icon is passionate about artful personalization.
“I love to use our creativity in printing and paper, and bringing it together on a new level. For example, in our first gallery exhibit by Parviz Shapour, we had special paper hand-made, then re-printed the artist’s original drawings with heritage letterpress.” - Vahid Pourkay From heritage printing techniques to contemporary production methods such as laser cutting and indigo printing, print icon can create and custom-tailor any design or stationery item a customer may imagine.
